Kano State Celebrates Workers on the Annual World Workers Day

His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR today attended the 2018 May Day Annual Celebration to mark world workers day which held at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata.

Governor Ganduje in his speech, said that workers, are partners in progress, and his administration since its inception has promised to work hand in hand with workers, and has been doing so. He also said that he is committed to fulfilling all their demands, only issue is the lack of resources. Dr Ganduje also highlighted many of the achievements recorded during his time in office, and urge them to continue to support his administration to continue to offer the people of Kano with developmental projects and programmes.

This year's event was marked by a match pass witnessed by His Excellency Governor Ganduje, by all the workers union in Kano led by the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and had participants from different sections of the union and other associations.

It will be recalled that Kano State was the 1st state in Nigeria to declare May 1st as public holiday, during the era of Late Governor of Kano, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, and then afterwards the federal government adopted it nationally.

The Chairman of the State Chapter of NLC, Comrade (Dr) Kabiru Ado Minjibir in his speech said that indeed the workers in Kano State have several reasons to celebrate the day, as this is the 3rd consecutive year the governor has been attending the celebrations. It is also on record that workers in Kano have been enjoying consistent payment of salaries and allowances as at when due, implementation of annual increment and allowances and promotion of teachers among others.

The event was well attended by the Honourable Speaker of the State Assembly, Secretary to the State Government SSG, the Head of Service of the State, Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers and other top government officials.
