Kano State Meets Islamic Development Bank Jiddah for $200 Million Investement

The Governor of Kano State His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR today led a delegation of Kano state government officials to a meeting with the Vice President of Islamic Development Bank, Dr Mansur Mukhtar and other members of the management his team at the headquarters of the bank in Jiddah.

Governor Ganduje expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the state government to the IDB for the meeting, to enable the two parties fine tune the grey areas in the proposed funding for the Kano State Integrated Agricultural and Water Resources Development Projects, to the tune of $200 Million.

He further added that his administration has completed all the necessary arrangements to access these funds, adding that the essence of today's meeting is to ensure the successful execution and implementation of the partnership.

The governor stated that the funds, are expected to be utilized specifically in funding some key projects like livestock productivity and enhancement, animal health services, crop production and yield improvement, all under the agricultural sector which about 2 million farmers are expected to benefit from in the scheme. While some of the projects under water resources sector include the construction of Wudil 90mld rural water supply treatment plant, upgrading of 6 existing water treatment plants in the state and others.

On his part, the Vice President of IDB Dr Mansur Mukhtar commended the governor for his relentless efforts in ensuring that the state met all the set requirements for the funds and also, doing it within the shortest time possible adding that no other state out of the 19 Northern states that indicated interest to access these funds has achieved what Kano did in terms of meeting the fund's requirements. He then assured the governor and his delegation that the bank is expected to present the request to its board this December, and a favourable outcome is expected, and thr funds will be released in phases from first quarter of 2018.

Governor Ganduje was accompanied by Hon Usman Riruwai, commissioner for water resources and rural development, Baba Halilu Dantiye Perm Sec ministry of environment, Hon Yahaya Adamu Garun Ali MD RUWASA and the chairman technical committee of the project Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim.
