Impressed by the achievements recorded by governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state in the education sector, the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti conferred him with an Award of Fellowship, at their 17th Combined Convocation ceremony, Saturday, held at the institution's Convocation arena, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state.
Both the Chairman of the Governing Council and the Rector of the Polytechnic, Chief Austin Igwe Edeze and Dr Dayo Hephzibah Oladebeye commended the unmatching commitment of Ganduje in the growth and development of education in Kano state.
While reminding all at the ceremony that governor Ganduje was a one time Chairman of the Polytechnic's Governing Council, they attested that the institution witnessed tremendous academic excellence during his time.
Dr Oladebeye appreciates that, "Distinguished ladies and gentlemen please join me to applaud this humane and urbane personality, quintessential statesman, a tireless administrator, a cerebral political player and remarkable past Chairman of the Governing Council of this noble institution,
as I present to you His Excellency, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (OFR) for his honour and decoration as a Fellow of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti (FFPA)."
In a response to their praises for the governor on vocational education, the governor said, "With rising trends in unemployment predicaments in our society for both skilled and unskilled individuals, technical and vocational education provide the necessary remedy to this disturbing scenario of unemployability of graduates of tertiary institutions."
Urging that Polytechnics across the nation are expected to "...continue to provide the leading steps towards entrepreneurship education for self employment and job creation."
After showcasing the many feats his administration achieved in primary and post-primary education, governor reveals that, "Because of concern for quality education at all levels, we concurrently have headway at all levels."
Explaining that, "For example in our 8 tertiary institutions of learning we have over 279 programmes that are accredited by agencies responsible for such exercise. For instance, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, has 27 programmes, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, has 32 programmes and Kano Polytechnic has 72 programmes."
Others according to him are Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, with 27, Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies has 15 programmes, College of Arts and Remedial Studies, Tudun Wada has 18 programmes, Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies has 10 programmes and Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso has 78 accredited programme.
Ganduje was accompanied by the Rector Kano Polytechnic, Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, Vice Chancellor, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Prof Shehu Alhaji Musa, Provost Kano College of Education and Preliminary Studies, Dr Sunusi Yakubu Ahmad and Provost Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, Dr Yahaya Isah Bunkure.
State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas and the Director General of Ganduje Campaign Organisation 2015 and 2019, Nasiru Aliko Koki were also on the governor's entourage.
Part of the reasons given by the Polytechnic for the Award included "In recognition his leadership acumen, humanitarian services, statesmanship as well a contributions to the growth and advancement of the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti in particular and Nigeria in general."
