For effective and efficient taming of insecurity spaces in the country, governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has called for ICT-based integration in national security system, urging that, with that, many positive results could be achieved in the national scheme of things.
He made the call when he received Board and Management members of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), when they paid him a courtesy call in his office, Government House, Kano, with the Chairman of the NCC Board, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, leading the team.
NCC were in Kano for Board Retreat between Monday 25th to Friday 29th November, 2019. At the courtesy call were the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Garba Dambatta, Executive Commissioners and other senior staff of the Commission.
Ganduje appreciated that "We are all partners in progress with this Commission, NCC. Because it is glaringly clear that, with ICT, good governance is more practicable and attainable. So you are good partners in progress, as we are taking our states to higher levels."
On the security matters, he warned how society takes things for granted, urging that, "We should all realise the dire need for the use of ICT in securing our lands. Which goes a long way in exploring the global best practice in security design."
When Kano started using Control Centre located at the State Police Command, governor realises that, from there he begins to comprehend the clearer and necessary demand for more secured environment, insisting that, "We come to understand that the use of ICT is just necessary."
Governor commends NCC for being all out for the satisfaction of Nigerian consumers in relation to the services of service providers, "We appreciate how concern NCC is, about the high charges meted on service consumers. It is highly patriotic and humane, among other good steps of the Commission," Ganduje appreciates.
The governor gave a few examples to buttress his point of the benefits derived from the use of ICT in the security system. Among other success stories from Kano, were the arrests made of those who Kidnapped the Magajin Gari of Daura and those who attacked the convoy of the Deputy Governor of Nassarawa state. All were arrested in Kano.
Also included in this category was the popular kidnapping kingpin from Taraba state, who was arrested in Kano. Besides other commanders of insurgents, who were also arrested in the state.
Earlier, in his remarks, NCC Board Chairman, Senator Durojaiye thanked Kano state government for providing the Commission with two pieces of land, for an ICT Park and construction of NCC permanent office in Kano.
"Other states I think should copy from Kano, for this kind gesture, that is aimed at making our work more effective, efficient and supportive from your side," he says.
He also commended the state for the support the state government renders to the NCC by way of a waiver granted to MTN Nigera Limited to the tune of N200 million in respect of ground fees.
