Health: KNSG establishes more TB Diagnostic Centres

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has revealed that his administration succeeded in increasing the number of Tuberculosis Centres to ensure full prevention and control of the disease among the people of the State.

" over the last four and a half years, this Government has been able to increase the number of TB diagnostic centres, treatment  centres, and number of diagnostic equipment (both Microscopes and Genexpert machines) as well as expansion of TB services to public and private health institutions including prisons, the Military barracks, Police academy, immigration and Custom institutions among others " he stated. 

The Governor was speaking at the commissioning and handover of Chest Clinic to Kano State Government by the Agbami Parties held at Kurna Primary Healthcare Centre in Dala Local Government Area.

Abdullahi Ganduje represented by his Deputy Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna maintained that the effort was also meant to ensure significant reduction in TB burden, socio-economic impact and transmission of the disease in the State.

He noted that Kano had been the most populous State in Nigeria and one of the six States currently having the highest burden of Tuberculosis, which he believes, with this project embarks upon by the State, a giant step is been taken towards ending tuberculosis by 2023 as enshrined in World Health Organisation  Sustainable Development Goals.

Other areas of health that had received highest priority by the State Government, according to the Governor, include gigantic effort in saving the lives of especially Women and Children through the provision of essential health services both at the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care levels.

" the present administration has succeeded in massive construction / expansion and upgrade of more than 300 healthcare facilities across the 44 Local Government areas of the State with a view to improve accessibility of our populace to quality healthcare services in the State " said Ganduje.

He revealed that the administration had also ensured full operationalization of two ultra-modern special hospitals ; Muhammadu Buhari Hospital at Giginyu and Sheik Isyaka Rabi'u Pediatric Hospital at Zoo road, adding that the ongoing expansion and upgrade of the Secondary healthcare facility in each of the four new Emirates in to a specialist Hospitals is yet another success to be recorded by the administration. 

Dr. Ganduje therefore assured of his administration readiness to partner with individuals, civil society organizations,  community based  organizations and other non governmental organizations within and outside the country in improving the health status and well-baing of the good people of Kano  State.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Kano  State Ministry of Health Alhaji Usman Bala disclosed that the project came in to being following the achievements and successes recorded in a project implemented in 2016 by Kano State TB and Leprosy Control Program in collaboration with Agbami Partners.

He explained that to this end, Kano State Government under the able leadership of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had trained over 300 healthcare Workers on Tuberculosis Services,  trained over 100 Laboratory Personnel on TB diagnosis and engaged 67 healthcare Workers including Medical Doctors on TB treatment services in the private health facilities. 

Earlier, in their separate remarks, the Group Manager NAPIMS Jafaru Agyu and the Director Star Deepwater Petroleum limited Rick Kennedy disclosed that the gesture is a clear demonstration of the resolve of Agbami Parties to support the availability of quality healthcare in the State.

According to them, the Chest Clinic donated by the Parties is fully equipped with a standard X-Ray machine, male and female wards, treatment rooms, laboratory and Gene Xpert machine among others.

 " Agbami Parties and other Chevron companies operating in the Deepwater horizon have built and equipped 39 laboratory complexes in close collaboration with the benefiting State Governments all over Nigeria to improve the study and learning of science education " they pointed out separately.
