Prior to the official graduation and inauguration of 150 trained youth in automobile mechanic, preparation for another 200 fresh potential trainees, distribution of empowerment kits to 560 trained vulcanizers, cash empowerment to 440 tricycle mechanics and graduation of 300 Industrial trainees in collaboration with Kano state government across the 44 local governments,
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje with the representative of the Minister of Labour and Employment alongside the Managing Director Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) commissioned 10 automobile mechanic centres across the metropolitan city of Kano.
PAN Managing Director, Ibrahim Boyi, announced to the hearing of all at the commissioning ceremony at Na'ibawa and Race Course road that, "These edifices are the first of their kind in the country. With this empowerment programme governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is doing it for sustainability purpose, in the face of self-independence among our youth."
Boyi said, "The automobile mechanic centres are modern and well structured to cater for all kinds of vehicles not only peogeout. This administration of Dr Ganduje is doing extremely well in boosting the morale of our youth for the overall societal development. This is human development at its peak."
At the commissioning of one of the mechanic centres at Race Course road, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, who was represented by Ibrahim M. Jibiya, after commissioning the edifice, he commended the state government for the new strategy in developing youth in the state.
Adding that, "Kano state government under Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is doing its best in putting to reality, the dream of President Muhammadu Buhari in improving the living condition of our youth across all the states of the federation, apart from what the federal government is doing at the centre."
"Kano state government deserves our commendation. Iam therefore calling on all the beneficiaries to try as much as they can to excel in their chosen areas of trade. Excellence is the key to all success," he advised.
At the graduation ceremony for the trainees governor Ganduje assured for the sustainability of the programme aimed at developing the potentials of the teeming youth in the state, emphasising that, "We are always ready to empower our youth for the socio-economic development of our state. Those who were trained at PAN Kaduna will be given the sum of Fifty Thousand Naira only (N50,000) each, with the working tools."
He assured that, his administration would continue to empower all segments of the society, so as to have population that can be seen as an asset not a liability. "We are targeting to continue having productive population," he stated.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the training they got and uplift themselves, adding that, "...we must do our best to educate our youth and to drastically reduce the rate of unemployment in the state."
Governor commended the partnership between the state government and PAN, in the development of the youth population in the state, revealing that, "Over the sum of N420 Million is to be spent for the second batch our youth going to PAN Learning Centre, Kaduna for another one year training programme."
For the general empowerment programmes in the state the governor said over 700,000 youth were empowered in the state, targeting the maximum of One Million people before his first tenure ends.
In his speech the Speaker Kano State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Kabiru Alasan Rurum, assured that the Assembly would soon pass the 2018 Budget to allow for more empowerment programmes.
Rurum said "The State House of Assembly is solidly behind the state government in the development of our people. Our governor, we are with you at all times. And we belive in what you are doing that you mean well for the state. We are behind your efforts in developing our state."
Commissioners of Information, Youth and Culture and that of Local Governments, Comrade Muhammad Garba and Murtala Sule Garo, commended Ganduje's efforts in toeing the line of youth development in the last three and a half years of his administration.
They encouraged Kano people that there are many more empowerment programmes in the pipeline. While many of them reached an advance stage for their take-off.
Promising that when Ganduje gets second term he would continue with many empowerment programmes across many trades and occupations, particularly for the less privileged ones in the society. Emphasis, according to them would be given to youth and women.
